Don, Eating without drinking quickly becomes a way of life. I had my surgery 5 1/2 years ago and it is the best thing I ever did for myself. I lost 128 pounds and have kept 110 of it off. I am almost 62 years old and am in PERFECT health. The key is to pay attention to what the professional staff tells you to do. I have no experience with the lap band. I had the roulenY (which I probably misspelled but was the state of the art when I had it. We were told not to eat things like bread and rice for several months. I assumed it was because of calories but that wasn't it. The bread sucks up fluids and makes the little sack hurt ALOT. Would I do this again, oh yes. I feel like a "regular person" now. I eat what I want now but I want lots less of the food than before. Best wishes all.     -- Helen Goff

I am scheduled to have the mini gastric bypass on Dec. 11th. How long should I expect to be off of work? I work at FedEx and it requires a lot of lifting and pushing/pulling.     -- Janell Kirk

Hi my name is Misty and i have been trying to get my insurance company bcbs to cover the surgery for over two years now due to my health conditions. I am only 33 years old and I have IBS, Graves' disease, this is a thyroid condition (which i have been in remission for six months now, acid reflux that was so bad that they changed that to chronic reflux, and lately my blood pressure has been a little high. Dr. Anez was the first doc i seen for the surgery and i felt confident that it would happen but my insurance denied me saying that they use to cover the surgery but not any longer. I then went to another doctor closer to my home town and the same thing with my insurance even with all my doctor giving their recommendation that I have the surgery. I am at a point now where I am going to try again with my insurance company but even if they will not help then i will have to borrow the money. I know that the surgery is the only other thing that i can do at this point. I have stopped smoking and it seems that my weight is gaining on me more. I am 5'6 and i weigh 270. I am a single parent and i know that if i want to me my son who is 13 now grow up then i will have to do this. If anyone has any advise for me about my insurance company please let me know. Sincerely, Misty Putman     -- Misty Putman

Don, No experience with your health care plan sorry! Your not drinking while eating question, I still have to make sure my drink is out of reach while eating because it is a hard habit to break. It is a very small sacrafice to make (not to drink while eating and then another 30-40 minutes afterward) for the wonderful results that I am enjoying. You learn to be sure there is plenty of moisture in what you are eating for best results! Come to the staple club meeting on Oct. 11th and ask lots of questions. I did so 3 months before my surgery and was very glad I did! Oh, no side effects or complications what so ever!!!McLean     -- A McLean

Hi, I visited Dr Anez about a week ago. I have several questions: 1. Does anyone have experience with United Healthcare? 2. How hard is it to adjust to no drinking with meals, etc. Sounds silly but am interested. 3. What side effects did you experience and/or still have. Thanks, Don     -- Don McGuiney

If you want more info please contact me and I will give you directions and details. Sounds like you are having a rough time, I' sorry! It helps to talk about it with others who have been in your shoes. I have learned so much from attending this group and the Staple Club. I also live in Warrenton and I would be happy to talk or get together with you! Things will get better for you soon! This is the best thing I have ever done for myself and I am sure in a little while as you get into the new groove of the way our bodies work a bit differently, you will be feeling much better!!! Brandy - I just read your post and my heart goes out to you. Hang in there - I felt the same way a few days after surgery. I actually laid in bed and cried and asked myself 'what did I do to myself'? The first month is probably the worst you'll ever feel. Try to get in the fluids - they definitely make you feel better. I promise this will pass. Email me if you want - my email address is heather_cantley@yahoo.com. I live in Warrenton and am always looking for support buddies.     -- Heather Cantley

I'm 4 months out from surgery now and feeling great! I'm a slow looser, but very proud to be a steady looser nontheless! I've lost 60 lbs. from my heaviest weight and I'm wearing a regular 14 or 16. Being so much smaller now is wonderful! I'm much lighter on my feet, I have more energy and I hardly ever don't feel well. Life is good! I do still have 40 lbs to go and I am focused! Weight loss surgery is by far the best thing I have ever done for myself. Dr. Anez and his great staff have taken very good care of me and it is a pleasure to see them! One of the best parts of this journey is that I have met others who have taken the same path and everyone is so supportive! I've made many new friends through the support groups and there is always someone to bounce questions off of, weather it is Dr. Anez's staff or my counterparts. I decided to post today because I wanted to try to encourage everyone to start posting on this site. We really should utilize this tool better then we do! I hope to see you all at the Staple Club, Journey Together or WBP. I know that my success so far has been helped along by the support I have gotten from my new friends that I have met in support groups and the expert advise I receive from Sally Myers and the guest speakers!     -- A Mclean
